We started as a seaweed gathering site. And 50 years later, we converted into a Nature Lodge.

Bahia Bustamante Lodge is a historic property, founded by the Spanish immigrant Lorenzo Soriano in the 1950s. Mr. Soriano started the seaweed industry in Argentina, and built, on this coast, the only seaweed recollection camp in the world. His grandson Matias turned the latter into a Nature Lodge, with the aim of preserving and sharing it with guests and scientists.

The historic houses of the seaweed village were turned into 4 options of accommodation. The immense property offers a true Patagonian safari along with a wide diversity of flora and fauna. Expert guides complement the adventure of enjoying Bahía Bustamante, where excitement and discovery are daily happenings.

Historic Street Signs of the Lodge

The old General Store

Common Areas

The old General Store was refurbished in 2024 into the common areas of the Lodge, with a typical Patagonian atmosphere. The doors open to our Reception and Bar, which then lead you to “La Prove” Restaurant to the right and the Living Room to the left, a History room and the Terrace and Fireplace area. All the areas are overlooking the ocean.

The Reception

It is the soul of this old historic building, with genuine Patagonian warmth. Your stay begins here.

“La Prove” Restaurant

Offers a fixed menu of regional cuisine, with its own produce such as lamb, guanaco, seaweed, fish and seafood, fruits, nuts, honey and vegetables from the biodynamic garden.

Living Room

Ideal for relaxing with a spectacular view of the sea through huge windows, while enjoying our wines, quince cider or custom-made drinks. The library is immense and diverse in books, bird guides, and scientific studies conducted on the property.

Terrace and Fire Pit

Next to the vineyard and with a spectacular view of the sea, we have the terrace and a fire pit. The meeting point for guests and friends. An ideal space for lunch or dinner outdoors, a fire pit to get together with a guitar or listen to great stories around the fire.
It can also be a quiet place to sit and read or chat with family and friends.

The Ocean Vineyard

All the power of the South Atlantic, captured in a bottle of wine.

From the huge windows of “La Prove” Restaurant, the view is impressive: the vineyards and the immense ocean coexisting, framed by flocks of birds, sometimes whales, penguins or a majestic rainbow.

The Vineyard

The sea vineyard is a project that we share with the Ver Sacrum Winery in Mendoza, and began in October 2018, with 2000 vines by the sea. The vineyard initially consisted of 70% Semillon grapes and 30% of Pinot Noir grapes. In early 2021 we added 2,000 vines, incorporating the Albarino variety and increasing the number of Pinot Noir vines.

The project continues to expand, with the implementation of new strains in other areas on the property. Our wine can be purchased at the Lodge. It also appears on the wine lists of renowned Argentine restaurants.

Our Museum

Two spaces to honor our history & wildlife

A historic shed has been converted into a Wildlife Interpretation Center, a space to house the memorabilia of the seaweed village. It has been created by those who are, or have been, part of Bahía Bustamante Lodge. Here you can learn about the species that inhabit the area, and understand the lifestyle of the seaweed workers back in the day.
