The Navigation is along a calm and unique cove, towards the Vernacci Islands, which are home to Sea Lions (4000 animals during breeding season), Magellan Penguins (100,000 Season: October to March) and colorful Marine Bird colonies. Navigation is done during high tide hours and with the right weather conditions.
A Peninsula with sandy beaches, crystal clear water and reddish rocks. With geological and archeological sites. Perfect for biking, trekking or touring in our 4x4 tracks, with lots of wildlife sightings and amazing views. A number of natural swimming pools are formed in between the rocks, and these are great for swimming with a view to the open ocean. The peninsula is a world of wonders to enjoy.
The Petrified Forest is a journey to the past, exactly some 60 million years ago. It starts with a 4x4 ride to the site located 18 miles away from the Lodge, combined with a moderate trekking around the Petrified Forest which is within the property. Fascinating! We will also be able to observe all kinds of Steppe wildlife (lesser rheas, guanacos, maras and more).
At only 20 minutes away from the Lodge, after a beautiful drive around the cove with lots of wildlife sightings, we arrive at an island which, on low tide hours, is accessible with a short walk. The island offers the amazing experience of watching a colony of Magellan Penguins, their chicks and nests all around us. It is a wild and pristine environment, of intense beauty.
It takes a beautiful 4x4 drive to reach this amazing Cape, an important rocky point of imposing landscape, open ocean views & isolated beaches. On our journey we will come across diverse wildlife such as: lesser rheas, maras, grey foxes, armadillos and more. Our first stop is to admire the Site Specific art installation of french artist Christian Boltanski next to the skeleton of a Sei whale. We then stop at Aristizabal Lighthouse, we do a short trek doing sightings of geological formations, discover tide pools and wild beaches.
We do a beautiful trek down the canyon, following the path of a dry river until we reach the ocean. We walk alongside immense and tall walls, formed by Jurassic rocks from the Mesozoic era. Some amazing tide pools are great fun for swimming and photo opportunities. We may also visit a native archeological site. The canyon is quite protected from windy conditions, which makes it ideal for birdwatching.
The property has a fascinating, rugged and diverse coastline. Its views are spectacular. The treks are easy to moderate level, and with the ability to determine the number of kilometers to walk or bike. It will be a journey through an ever changing landscape, with wildlife sightings and archaeological and geological discoveries.
We produce sustainable wool by applying holistic management in sheep breeding, with the aim of restoring the grasslands of Patagonia. This activity will help you understand the challenges we have in Patagonia, the methods and the traditions. You can also see our fruit, honey and olive production.
We offer tailor made experiences for those with specific interests. They can range from birdwatching to coastal horseback riding, a march experience or fly fishing off the coast. We also offer a historic tour to the town of Camarones, for those with longer stays. The town is 80 kms away from the Lodge. Our bestseller is the Marsh Experience: at the low tide hours, we get immersed on the Cove marsh, to discover its intertidal landscape. This is a rich feeding area for marine coastal birds, and gives us the chance to observe unique specimens that are hard to find on other excursions. A true opportunity to discover the amazing diversity of this unexplored marine universe.
The schedule of all exploration activities is defined daily,
based on tides and weather conditions.
